Mantiqueire Mountain
With an exuberant and beautiful mountain range, the Serra da Mantiqueira 500 km long, is the most important mountainous massif in the country, located in three Brazillian States: Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Minas Gerais.
Mantiqueira originates from the Tupi-Guarani and means ‘Serra que Chora’, so-called by the Indians, its first inhabitants, and due to a large number of springs and rivers, important sources of drinking water, supply a large number of cities in the southeast of Brazil.
With an average altitude of 1,200 of 2,800 meters and geographic coordinates 22″ 28′ 05″s 45″ 012′ W. the Serra do Montiqueira integrates the Atlantic Forst ecosystem that has one of the largest biodiversity on the planet, being considered the green lung of the region and also the habitat of a very varied fauna.
In the midst of the Serra da Mantiqueira, its mountainous formations house the Circuit das Aguas, composed of the famous cities of Sao Lourenco, Caxambu, Lambari, and Cambuquira, which are known worldwide for their hydromineral resorts that have medicinal and therapeutic properties.
It is in this true sanctuary that the Region of Mantiqueira de Minas is located producing ‘cafes with origins and quality’, being considered by the producers an extraordinary patrimony that guarantees the socio-environmental sustainability of the region.
